Insomniac's Nocturnal Wonderland Virtual Rave-a-thon Celebrates The Old School Rave Era

Published: 14 April 2020

Over the weekend, Insomniac’s Nocturnal Wonderland Virtual Rave-a-Thon, hosted by Pasquale Rotella, took viewers on a journey back to the festival’s halcyon days in the LA underground. More than 3 million viewers tuned in to Insomniac Events’ YouTube from 8pm to just after midnight on Friday and Saturday to experience the festival’s incredible history and cultural impact. 12th Planet, Armnhmr, Arty, Bijou, Borgore, Born Dirty, Champagne Drip, Demigod, Jason Ross, Ship Wrek, Spencer Brown, TJR, VNSSA, Z-Trip, and Zeds Dead delivered an extensive collection of old-school and new-school tracks to viewers tuned in worldwide across Youtube, Twitch, Huya and Mixer.

Decked out in overalls and a rotating collection of fuzzy hats, Rotella reminded the community to “Stay Home, Stay Safe and Stay Positive” while reflecting back on the countless special Nocturnal moments he’s experienced throughout the festival’s 25-year history. Friday night’s lineup featured Born Dirty, who debuted a variety of unreleased tracks complete with Latin house and breakbeat vibes, while Jason Ross threw it back with 2010 acapella classics before 12th Planet and Borgore finished off the night, both playing a variety of old-school dubstep and OG bangers. Saturday evening’s lineup started off on a journey from past to present, as Z-Trip performed on his own custom rig before Bijou took to the stage for a set filled with West Coast g-house and funk vibes. Demigod, who was there with Pasquale at the inception of Nocturnal and has witnessed the growth of the electronic music scene over the last two decades, played a full throwback set followed by TJR’s “hard rave set” complete with a mixture of ’90s classics, breaks and acid house. Bringing Insomniac’s Nocturnal Wonderland Virtual Rave-a-Thon to a close, Zeds Dead played an extended one-hour set, which mixed classic jams with some of the most popular tracks from the last few years in electronic music history.

In addition to featuring the sets at insom.co/VirtualNocturnal, Insomniac is currently broadcasting classic sets and festival footage from its vast archives, including performances from EDC Las Vegas, EDC Orlando, EDC Mexico, HARD Summer, and the Okeechobee Festival. Dubbed Insomniac REWIND, the programming kicked off Thursday, March 19, and continues to broadcast 24/7.
